At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, mentorship often grows in the everyday moments: trying something new, laughing through a shared experience, learning side by side, and simply showing up for one another.
For Little Brother Jhaden Johnson and Big Brother Jose Aguimatang, one of those meaningful moments happened during a Big Brothers Big Sisters-sponsored activity at Gourmando. Together, they joined other matches for a hands-on cooking experience where they learned how to break down a rotisserie chicken for meal prep and helped prepare food for fellow attendees.
What may sound like a simple cooking class quickly became something more. It was a chance for Jhaden and Jose to work together, build confidence, and create memories through a new shared experience.
Throughout the activity, Jose was right there beside Jhaden, offering encouragement, support, and a steady presence. Whether they were learning a new kitchen skill or helping prepare food for others, their time together reflected what makes mentorship so powerful: consistency, care, and connection.
