Mentorship Blooms Through Floral Arranging | BBBSPS

Mentorship Grows Through Shared Experiences

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, mentorship is built through consistent moments of connection, encouragement, and shared discovery. On May 9, Bigs and Littles came together for a hands-on floral arranging activity made possible by donated flowers and a guest instructor from Bill Doran Company.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, matches learned how to select, trim, and arrange fresh blooms. With care and creativity, each Big and Little worked side by side to build a bouquet of their own.

For many Littles, this was their first time learning floral design. Guided by their Big and a professional florist, they practiced a new skill, explored their creativity, and experienced the confidence that comes from creating something with their own hands.

Building Confidence Through Mentorship

Match activities like this are more than fun experiences. They are opportunities for young people to try something new in a supportive environment.

As Bigs and Littles learned, laughed, and encouraged one another, they strengthened the kind of relationship that helps young people feel supported, seen, and valued. These moments help Littles build confidence, develop new interests, and expand their sense of what is possible.

Mentorship supports youth mental health by creating space for belonging, consistency, and care. When young people have a trusted adult who shows up for them, they are more likely to feel connected and encouraged as they grow.

Future-Ready Youth Start With Connection

At BBBSPS, we believe future-ready youth are built one relationship at a time. Every match activity helps create a stronger foundation for Littles to explore who they are, what they enjoy, and who they can become.

Whether it is learning a new skill, visiting a new place, or simply spending time together, these shared experiences help young people build confidence, curiosity, and connection.

The May floral arranging class was a beautiful reminder that mentorship can bloom in everyday moments. A bouquet may start with flowers, but for Bigs and Littles, the experience grows into something much more meaningful: trust, joy, and a stronger bond.

Meet Eleanor and KiAmore

Meet Big Sister Eleanor and Little Sister KiAmore, newly matched in April 2026. Moments shared at our floral arranging activity show how mentorship supports youth mental health through belonging, consistency, and care.

Their match is just beginning, but experiences like this help create the connection and confidence that make mentorship so powerful.
