FIFA WORLD CUP | A Once-in-a-Lifetime Match Experience at Lumen Field

There are some experiences that stay with us long after the moment has passed.

For several Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound matches, attending a World Cup game at Lumen Field in Seattle was one of those unforgettable moments. Surrounded by the energy of the stadium, the excitement of the crowd, and the joy of sharing something truly special together, our Bigs and Littles had the chance to be part of a global event right here in our community.

This was more than just a game.

It was a day filled with connection, laughter, curiosity, and memories that will last a lifetime. For many of our matches, opportunities like this do not happen every day. To walk into Lumen Field, feel the excitement of the World Cup, and experience it side by side with a mentor was something unique and meaningful.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, we believe mentorship is built through moments like these. Sometimes it looks like a conversation over lunch, a walk through the park, a shared hobby, or a quiet check-in after school. Other times, it looks like standing together in one of Seattle’s most iconic stadiums, taking in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

No matter the setting, the heart of mentorship remains the same: showing up.

This special opportunity began with a connection made through our BIG Breakfast guest speaker last year and continued through persistence, partnership, and the support of the organizing committee. Because of that shared commitment, our matches were able to experience something extraordinary together.

For a Little, a moment like this can open the door to a bigger world. It can spark a new interest, build confidence, and create a memory they will carry with them for years. For a Big, it is another reminder that mentorship does not have to be complicated to be powerful. Sometimes, the simple act of being present can become the moment a young person remembers most.

That is the power of youth mentorship in Seattle and across the Puget Sound region. It is not only about changing one day. It is about helping shape a young person’s sense of possibility, belonging, and hope.

To every Big who has shown up, planned an activity, asked a question, listened with care, or shared a new experience with your Little: you are making a difference.

And you are not alone.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound is here with you. We are behind you, supporting you every step of the way as you build a meaningful relationship with your Little. Whether it is your first match activity or your hundredth, our team is here to provide guidance, encouragement, resources, and opportunities that help your match grow.

Mentorship changes lives, but it does not happen alone. It happens through community. It happens through partnership. It happens when people believe that every young person deserves someone in their corner.

This World Cup match activity was a beautiful reminder of what becomes possible when our community comes together for young people. It brought joy. It strengthened connection. It created lifelong memories.

Most importantly, it reminded us why this work matters.

When a Big and Little share an experience like this, they are not just watching a game. They are building trust. They are creating a story. They are growing together.

And those moments can change everything.
