Be The Reason: Celebrating National Mentoring Month 2026

January is National Mentoring Month, a time to celebrate the power of mentorship and the lasting impact caring adults can have on young people. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound is launching our Be the Reason campaign — a mentor recruitment effort centered on visibility, authenticity, and real voices from our community.

Mentorship changes lives, but it often starts with a simple moment of inspiration. Be the Reason invites our community to share why they believe in mentoring and to help others see themselves as the reason a young person feels supported, confident, and hopeful.

Why “Be the Reason” Matters

People are inspired to become mentors when they hear a story that moves them, see leadership in action, and connect with a reason that feels personal.

This campaign is built on that idea: real people sharing real reasons.

When mentors, leaders, and advocates speak in their own words, mentorship becomes more relatable, more human, and more visible across Puget Sound.

How You Can Participate

We’re inviting everyone to support the Be the Reason campaign in three simple but powerful ways:

1. Record a “My Reason” Video

Record a 30–60 second video starting with the phrase:

“My reason is…”

Share why you believe in mentorship, why you support Big Brothers Big Sisters, or why showing up for young people matters to you.

2. Share Campaign Content

Help amplify the message by sharing Be the Reason content on your social media. Your voice and visibility help mentorship reach new audiences.

3. Personally Invite One Person to Become a Mentor

Sometimes, the most powerful invitation is personal. Consider reaching out to one person in your network and encouraging them to explore becoming a mentor.

Your Voice Makes Mentorship Possible

Your voice and networks expand our reach in ways marketing alone cannot. Every shared story helps someone see that mentorship is possible, and that they could be the reason a young person feels supported, seen, and encouraged.

Thank you for helping us make mentorship visible across Puget Sound and for being part of a movement that creates lasting impact for young people in our community.

Be the reason. Become the reason. Share the reason.
