Big Brothers Big Sisters community comes together to honor Matches of the Year at BIG Impact: Networking with a Purpose

Last night we had an incredible BIG Impact: Networking with a Purpose event at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), where we celebrated our Big and Little Matches of the Year.

We were thrilled to connect with over 200 Bigs, community supporters, and corporate sponsors to hear inspiring stories and share the power of mentorship at our BIG Impact event. The evening was also an opportunity to thank supporters like you who make our work possible. We are so grateful for your generosity and commitment to young people.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the announcement of our Big and Little Matches of the Year. These matches were chosen based on their outstanding commitment to each other and the program, as well as their positive impact in each others’ lives.

One of the matches highlighted was Big Sister Monica and Little Sister Tracy. Monica and Tracy were matched when Tracy was 9 years old. Monica has been someone who Tracy can rely on for emotional support. Tracy has faced a lot of bullying at school, and Monica helps her have confidence in herself. Monica and Tracy love to craft and journal together. Their favorite thing to do is write letters – actual letters with stamps in the mail! Tracy is glad to have Monica to rely on and encourage her creativity. She has big dreams for the future.

Another match highlighted was Big Brother Adi and Little Brother Heaven. Adi and Heaven were matched in 2019, when Heaven was 8 years old. Heaven shared that he has learned a lot about stepping outside of your comfort zone from Adi, who came here from Israel. They love to try new sports together. They’ve tried over 15 different sports! Both Adi and Heaven say this has taught them a lot about the benefits of consistency and hard work. Heaven wants to be a lawyer when he grows up, and maybe someday be a Big Brother too.

Adi and Heaven joined us on stage to accept their Match of the Year Award and an even bigger round of applause.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate our Matches of the Year at our annual BIG Impact event. Their commitment to each other and the program is a testament to the transformative power of mentoring. We are so thankful to each and every person who joined us to celebrate these matches. Your support ensures that these young people and thousands more like them will have the support needed to achieve their full potential.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Museum of Pop Culture for hosting our event. MoPOP is an iconic Seattle landmark and fantastic setting in which to showcase our matches. We’d also like to thank our sponsors: The Seattle Times, Amazon, Columbia Bank, Lockton Companies, and KeyBank.

Thank you so much to all of our attendees and donors for your gifts and your support. If you weren’t able to join us, here are some ways you can help provide young people with mentors, mentors with the training and guidance they need to support youth, and parents & guardians with the confidence of knowing that their young person has another safe, trustworthy adult in their life.
