Seven years as a Big Brother. A career in education. A new seat on the board.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound (BBBSPS) today announced the appointment of Olu Ikuesan, Ed.S., to its Board of Directors. The board unanimously approved his appointment at its September 17, 2026 meeting.
Ikuesan’s connection to the BBBSPS mission is personal. He became a Big Brother in college and mentored his Little for seven years, from middle school through high school. The two are still in touch today.
“Mentorship is so important and so is proximity,” said Ikuesan. “Sometimes, young people just need to be exposed to something to realize what’s possible for them. Having the opportunity to mentor a Little and support him through middle school and high school, and then still remain connected with him as an adult, has been a really cool experience.”
Ikuesan is proud of his Nigerian heritage. His father is Nigerian, his mother is from South Georgia, and he values the perspectives both have given him.
Ikuesan is an Account Manager for Alaska and Washington at Savvas Learning Company, where he partners with school districts to support educators and students. His career has been built in education, including 10 years in the classroom as a math educator and four years as an education consultant.
“Olu brings deep education expertise and something just as powerful: he knows what it means to show up for a young person, year after year,” said Alonda Williams, President and CEO of BBBSPS. “Mentorship is consistency, not perfection, and Olu has lived that. We are thrilled to welcome him to our board.”
Ikuesan’s commitment to young people started early. At 18, he began working with the YMCA in after-school programs and with youth in foster care. He supports NOLIJ, a scholarship program in Atlanta, and enjoys helping young people build financial literacy and understand long-term investing. He is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
For Ikuesan, three words in the BBBSPS mission stand out. “The three words that resonate with me most are ‘ignite the power,'” he said. “I believe each generation has a responsibility to give back to the next. Through that process, we provide tools, wisdom, guidance, resources, and relationships that give the next generation the power to build and shape the world they envision for themselves.”
Ikuesan holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Science Education, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an education specialist degree in Instructional Technology. Outside of work, he loves hiking, running, landscape photography, and travel. Fun fact: Olu saw the Northern Lights for the first time in Norway.
